Craft at Koonung Cottage

Picture
Although different crafts go in and out of fashion, craft has continued in some form at Koonung Cottage. Starting with a volunteer crochet instructor in the first year of the Cottage, craft has evolved under different teachers.
Lynne was wonderful. She taught us so many things.

Lynne Wishart taught craft classes from about 1985 to 2002. She started by showing how to make a handkerchief press. One student came to the first class and two students came to the second class. They worked at a rickety card table.

But word spread quickly. Soon Lynne was teaching on Tuesdays and Thursdays with extra workshops for those who could not get to a class. She introduced many projects including footstools made from baby food tins. Most projects took one to three sessions to complete.

After Lynne left, the group became a self-help group with fortnightly meetings. Their first project took nine months, as members made beautiful bags.
