Festive fun
I always love coming to the Christmas parties. Participants look forward to the Koonung Cottage Christmas lunch. A team of approximately twenty volunteers provides a seated two-course meal for up to 110 guests in the Cottage. Every guest brings and receives a gift in a large scale Kris Kringle.
Everyone wants to be here and we all have a lovely day. The Christmas raffle is the major fundraiser for Koonung Cottage. Different groups donate beautiful prizes including a patchwork quilt, paintings, a rug from the spinners and items from the Koonung Woodturners Guild and Art in Bark Association.
The donations for the raffle are incredible. I love seeing the display in the office. |
Over the years the volunteers have fine-tuned the organization of this crowded but cheerful event. Some can be found at the Victoria Market at 6:00 am handpicking 110 potatoes so that all are the same size. State and Federal members of parliament pitch in to help wash dishes, and even unblock sinks as required.
If you could sum up the value of the Cottage it’s the friendliness. The minute you walk in there is always a smiling face.
